This collection consists of the memoirs of Paul M. Gerrish during his service in the United States Army from March 11, 1945 to November 16, 1945. From Paul M. Gerrish's 15 December 1974 transmittal letter he writes that he had asked the Army Military Research Collection for some information which they didn't have. He states that he wanted him to write his own memories for their collection. He states that this was his first attempt at writing anything other than short stories. He wrote his manuscript in December 1974.

Paul M. Gerrish was born 2 October 1916 near a farm in Glidden, Iowa. At the age of 6, the family moved to Nebraska. Gerrish started working on ranches in the area at the age of 16. After a few years, he had started working with heavy construction machinery and this was his occupation when he went into the United States Army. Gerrish was assigned to a Headquarters Company and sent to radio operator's school. Then, he was assigned to the 40th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop where he served until the...
